Health Tip: Using Antihistamines
Take them safely

(HealthDay News) -- Antihistamines are medications to control allergy symptoms such as sneezing, runny nose and irritated eyes. Antihistamines are available over-the-counter and by prescription.

The American Academy of Family Physicians says you should always discuss these drugs with your doctor before taking one.

Antihistamines may interact with other medications or substances, as listed here by the AAFP:

  • Muscle-relaxing medications.
  • Sleeping pills or other medicines used for sedation.
  • Medications used to treat high blood pressure.
  • Alcohol.
